A person who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and gave them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up became sick at the location in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was held in detention prior to a further hearing on 28 November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.
The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated the defendant went on to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities a second time.
She said the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
